The Solar + Storage Lobby Day at the State Capitol in Sacramento yesterday was a great success! Nineteen Sun Light & Power team members joined over 200 industry professionals to rally for SB 700 (Wiener), the bill that would extend for 5 years the incentives for residential and commercial energy storage systems. The bill is considered important in helping meet the state’s clean energy goals, address grid reliability issues, and protect tens of thousands of solar jobs as so-called Time-of-Use rates hit consumer energy bills in 2019.
According to Gary Gerber, president and CEO of Sun Light & Power, the Solar + Storage Lobby Day provided industry workers an opportunity to meet with State Representatives to request the support of renewable energy issues. They discussed how solar creates well-paying jobs, supports free enterprise and assists with the stewardship of our precious environment.
“It was heartwarming to see a huge group of like-minded individuals band together to show their support for a very important cause. We hope we were able to stress to our elected officials the urgency of extending these crucial incentives for residential and commercial energy storage systems in California,” Gary said.
SB 700 is currently in the Assembly Appropriations committee. If it passes that committee, it will proceed to the Assembly Floor next week. It passed the Senate last year so it would only need to return for a concurrence vote before heading to the governor’s desk.
After a morning rally, Sun Light & Power employees, together with other Lobby Day participants, fanned out into small groups to meet with legislators to advocate for pro-solar and storage policies.
